I want to talk about something that most artists are completely ignoring right now.
Your music isn’t the problem.
The problem is that music lost its value. Not YOUR music specifically. Music in general.
When streaming arrived, everything changed. Suddenly every song ever made was available for free, 24/7. That’s great for listeners. For artists? It killed the value of what you make.
Because here’s the thing: people only value what’s scarce.
Gold is expensive because there isn’t much of it.
Houses are expensive for the same reason.
Old vinyl records people are paying crazy money for right now. Also scarcity.
Music used to work the same way. You had to dig for it. Trade for it. Know the right people to get the right tracks. That made it feel like something.
Now you can get anything in two seconds. So nobody values it the same way anymore.
And now with AI pumping out hundreds of thousands of songs a day, the volume game is already lost. You can’t win that fight.
But here’s the good news.
Scarcity is coming back.
Vinyl sales have been growing for years. Calvin Harris just promoted vinyl for his latest single. People are craving music that feels like something again.
So what does that mean for you?
β Stop trying to release more. Release less, but make it count.
β Start giving your community exclusive music they can’t get on Spotify.
β Build a place where your real fans can actually connect with you. Discord, email list, whatever works.
β Think quality, not quantity. Four great tracks a year beats twelve average ones every time.
AI will own the middle. The generic, the forgettable, the eh-it’s-fine stuff.
You win by being irreplaceable. By being yourself. By making things that feel like they were made by a real person with a real perspective.
That’s the game now.
I made a full video about this. Link below if you want the whole picture.
